Babies, Nurserys and Painting Oh My!

First let's welcome the newest member of our family--My oldest daughter jessica and her hubby welcomed ava christine into the world last Friday after 2 1/2 hours of labor and 3 pushes--it is her 3rd baby so we will chalk that easy labor up to experience!!

Ava with her big brother luke.......

My youngest daughter and her hubby are expecting their first child in December and we have started on their nursery...and i can tell you painting a crib and changing table rungs are the pits...

First off remove all hardware and cover any screws with painters tape....
Next up primer......I used spray primer on both .....

and then went with Rust Oleum 2x's Painters Touch Spray Paint..  I did 4 coats on each piece....

the key is to be sure you watch closely for drips or runs...
take your time between coats and let each dry completely...
sand very lightly between coats to even out the look....
I did have a couple runs so i sanded them down (applied a bit of pressure when sanding) and resprayed very carefully...it looked great.....
Next up the polyurethane...I thought a spray would be a great quick solution...WRONG..beginners mistake...it yellowed the paint.....
So I re-sanded the yellowed area
pulled out the my Purdy!!!
and went with a brush on MinWax polycrylic-- and it really did the job.........
  they both look really good...

Now on to the nursery itself.....started by priming those BRIGHT RED walls...they will soon be a soothing white with great pink stripes.....(sorry for the grainy pics--camera phone has been my best friend lately)

The room is an attic made into a bedroom so it has the great slanted ceiling that I think will really add to the room once it is completed....the plan is to do a little something like this on each end wall......
At this point I will be pleased once all the wall are painted white!!
