Several weeks ago I ran into this leaving work....
Yes---that is dumpster right next to it...someone threw this beauty out ...so I really did not have to dumpster dive--more like dumpster drive-by and grab....
I had been wanting to try to "borrow" this look
Anthropology Dresser-Cost $998.00...
I thought the square build of my dresser just might work.....
Soo...I did a lot of this..(several hours to be exact) ..scraping off a poly covering......
resulting in a lot of this....and it is a MESS!!!
And I ended up with these...and as you can tell in the picture I also cut notches in the drawers with a jig saw....I did make a template out of cardboard to be sure they were the same size.....
I started staining the drawers once completely sanded and really liked the results....I left one unstained in this picture to help show the difference....
Next I enlarged and printed some numbers in different size fonts and cut out the one that i liked best.......made a stencil to trace onto the drawer fronts...I also had to fill the original handle holes in the bottom 3 drawers and sand the fill down..The holes look now look like knots in the wood-which is kind of cool...next- picked up the top handle at Lowes--2 times.....LESSON LEARNED--LOOK inside the little hardware bag to be certain that you have the SAME hardware pieces..just because they are in the same bin does not mean they are the same!!
As you can tell by the space between the drawers and the frame I also cut 2 inches off the top of each drawer...This left a notch on the sides-but it did not change how the drawers open and closed....
I also put new bottoms in the drawers (plywood) and some new drawer runners to help the drawers open and close a bit smoother..and waxed them of course with candle wax to help out also.......and here is the finished piece......and it cost a bit less than $998.00!!
One last peek......
Theirs............
Mine........I am pretty happy with the outcome.......Want to see more start to finish projects?

It looks amazing, what a great free find! Mismatched hardware has happened to me before, too. So annoying!

Oh my gosh! I am seriously impressed. You could have told me that YOURS was anthropologie, and I would have believed it. So cool! It looks like you have it staged next to a couch - did you keep it there and use it for a buffet?
