My father gave me this rattan chest that belonged to his father…
He told me his father brought this over “on the boat”
with him when came from Serbia to the United States.
He said everything my grandfather owned
was in this rattan chest.
I love this chest…
I love the lock and wonder who touched this lock…..
who locked it……and unlocked it….
and what did this stamped paper say?
Now this basket holds a special spot on display
in my front room….
You can imagine my surprise when I saw this in Pottery Barn….
“Antique wooden sea chests were the models for our woven rattan trunks. Built for strength and storage, each is tightly woven by hand, and has a lid that closes and latches with decorative bronze-finished brackets.”
Now you can have a vintage rattan sea chest and I can add to mine-and I must say they look a lot like my original one!
Love me some Pottery Barn!!

ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing heirloom, how wonderful that you were lucky enough to inherit it. They really are sought after in the antique malls. PB has some interesting knockoffs. Thanks so much for linking up with VIF!
