Vintage Oars and other finds from vacation......

I went to my favorite antique shop in Minocqua looking for some old, vintage boat oars....I had spied a few a couple weeks ago--but they were $35.00 a piece....not happening.....I ended up with these.....Their color and wear are perfect for what I want them for.....and their price $2.00 a piece!! SCORE!!
I have 3 Pottery Barn oars that I have displayed on a wall-but I want to keep 2 of them on either side of our television above our fireplace (below).....so I needed the new 2 to replace those on the wall...

I also picked up 2 baskets-

And some cool old number stamps....

Now I just need to figure out where those new goodies will go......I think I see a booth in a local antique mall in my  future or an Etsy shop!

Great Vacation Spot! Minocqua Wisconsin

If any of you are looking for a tiny vacation town that time has seemed to pass by--look no further...
Perfect family vacation spot-----Minocqua Wisconsin.
We rent cabins on Lake Minocqua each summer-and jet ski's and boats for the week also....The downtown is walking distance from most areas and every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday there is a ski show in the downtown area featuring the Mini Aqua Bats-a ski group made up of very talented teenagers that summer in Minocqua or are locals..
This is a try-out ski team and they are VERY talented........and offer a great free ski show!

Here is our vacationing group from this year--from left to right--my brother-in-law of 30 years, my son and his wife, me, my nephew with my grandson in from of us, my daughter, her hubby and my sister...
This evening I am taking pictures of some of my finds I picked up from Minocqua....I had been looking for some vintage paddles/oars that would not cost me a boatload of cash...the first ones I found at a sale a few weeks ago were $35.00 a piece--too rich for my blood...wait till you see what I found!
more on those tonight....until then.....
a few more lake shots....i love vacations!

VACATION!

Tomorrow several of us--my daughter & her hubby, my son & his wife, my grandson, my sister & her hubby & my nephew are all heading to Minocqua, Wisconsin for a week in the Northwoods...We have rented cabins, jet ski's and pontoon boats to keep us busy while there...... There are a few GREAT vintage shops and antique stores that I will be spending some time in--looking for that GREAT find!

And once I return my project list turns to these:

By showing you what is in that box should help you figure out the project...

Yes--my youngest daughter and her hubby are expecting their first child...as well as my oldest daughter is expecting her 3rd child..both are expecting girls..so I need to help a bit with both nursery's.

I need to find and paint 2 dressers....both a bit different in size and shape...one longer with about 6 drawers and one taller with about 5 drawers.....
The items in the pic's above are going in the new nursery for my youngest daughter--painting the chair white, the blue step stool pink and the rocking horse pink and white....
Here is our inspiration photo:
We found the bedding on sale at Pottery Barn Kids.....I was thrilled...love a good great sale!
So as you can see I will be busy!
See you in a week.....

Mod Podge for Protection

Awhile back I made over a great vintage trunk...
http://midwestcottageandfinds.blogspot.com/2011/01/trunk-transformation.html
My favorite part of the trunk was the vintage travel stamps still on the top and sides....but I was worried how to protect them....so until I decided what to do I covered them with thin plastic..you can see it in the upper left corner here....not a good look...so last week I picked up some Mod Podge...and decided to give it a try....
I must admit I was a bit nervous covering the stamps--
At this point I was down right SCARED......but then things began to dry and.....
It ended up looking really good--the stamp did not run-which was my fear---and now it has a pretty good covering on it to help protect it...so then I moved on to one of my FAVORITE stamps on the trunk....
an Oct. 23rd 1928 stamp from New York....once again at this point I was a bit nervous...
But after drying--once again--a great look with a bit of protection...
Not a bad looking stamp for almost 83 years old!

Have you checked out Million Dollar Decorators yet on Bravo?
It is a interior design show featuring 5 big name designers, their work and personal life--LOVE IT!!  the most recent episode followed Martin Lawrence Bullard (could listen to him talk all day long)  to London to find 100 items for a special container sale on One Kings Lane--it was pickin at it's finest--Now while most items are a bit (really a BIG BIT) out of my price range-
I must admit I might have jumped on one of these---had they not been sold out--PLUS i watched Martin on last nights episode purchase them at a great little antique store in London!!
Here is the link to the goodies he picked up for the sale....
While I don't watch a lot of TV I must admit--
I will be in front of the tube every Tuesday night for this design show..... VERY interesting and entertaining!
